  DATES TO REMEMBER:

KickBall
Our fall physical activity is a kickball tournament that involves our parents!  Round 1 (played last month) resulted in a very big win for kindergarten parents (14-2) as they soundly defeated SPS staff.  Round 2 (October 7) will be a contest between 1st and 2nd grade parents.  The game will be played from approximately 1:00 – 2:00.  Please sign up and let your child see that you love to play!!!!

Car riders
Please be sure to have your child exit your car onto the sidewalk side of the school in the mornings to better ensure their safety.  Having everything ready (back pack, money, extras, etc.) will speed up the drop off and help prevent traffic back up. Also, please continue to place your placard in your windshield in the afternoons.  Thank you.

VOLUNTEERS
Calling all volunteers!!!  If you have a smile and can put on a band aid please consider volunteering in our clinic. We need volunteers in the clinic. We do have a nurse but most of her time is spent on skills with specific children.  Please call the school to sign up if you can help.

FALL

Please, please remember to label your child’s jacket/coat.  September 22nd was the first day of fall so surely one of these days the temperature will begin to drop, mums will bloom, leaves will fall and crisp mornings will call for jackets. 

Storybook Character Day
On October 31st students are encouraged to come to school dressed as their favorite storybook character.  There will be a morning parade and then classes will resume as usual.  You might want to send a change of clothing for your child if his/her costume will not be comfortable wear for all day.  All costumes should be storybook related and should not be scary or violent in any way.  Students may not carry toy guns, knives, swords, etc. as part of their costume.

Diversity Awareness
We are grateful that Seymour Primary School continues to grow in ethnic diversity.  We celebrate the opportunity to recognize different cultures and for our young students to realize that we are all part of a global community.  The Tennessee Department of Education has named September 15th – October 15th as Hispanic Heritage Month, and we want to recognize those students and staff who make up this important part of our school population.

Lunch at SPS
If you are coming to eat lunch with your child and plan to have either the salad or sandwich bar rather than the hot lunch, please send a note to your child’s teacher so they can let the cafeteria know the number of meals to prepare.

Red Ribbon Week
In 1988 Congress proclaimed the last full week in October as National Red Ribbon Week.  In observance, Dr. Hebert, the school counselor, has planned discussion (better things to do than drugs), an opportunity for prizes, and the following dress-up days:

Football tickets
Advance Seymour High School football student tickets are sold on all Fridays of home games.  The tickets are available to our students at a reduced rate of $4.00 ($1.00 savings) on Friday morning of each home game.  

No child may be dropped off at the school before 7:00a.m.  If you plan to walk your child inside, you must park in the back parking lot.  Please do not park in the front parking lot in the mornings.

October 14
Sign up with your child’s teacher for a Parent/Teacher conference held from 3:00 – 6:00.  The time is divided into 15 increments.  We will also have Family Reading Night in our Library.  Be sure to drop by and open up your parent library account and receive information on how to access our Accelerated Reading booklist.  Make it a practice to read with your child everyday!

Fund raiser
The Limo Ride (and lunch) will be at 10:30 on October 15th  for those students selling the most items.  Our school wide Mega Party will start early on October 16th.  All our students will have an opportunity to spend time enjoying the inflatable rides and activities. Seymour Primary School Staff wishes to thank the parents and friends that worked so hard to make our fund raiser a success.  We could not function as a school of excellence without your help.  We remain thankful for the partnership we share with you.

Fall Festival
We are in the process of planning our Fall Festival.  Please call the office or contact your child’s teacher if you would like to volunteer to help.
