Kindergarten

Our school currently has 8 kindergarten classes and while each classroom has a different teacher, all are characterized by various centers for students to explore, enriched with books, words, letters, numbers, and other instructional aids,  and student work displayed throughout the room.  Differentiated instruction is evident as all students do not learn in the same way.  Small groups of students with teachers and assistants providing support that addresses the individual needs of students are also evident in the kindergarten classroom.

Children at this developmental age are growing rapidly and learning to express ideas.  We are helping them to construct meaning and learn from experiences by working together, problem-solving and sharing ideas and activities.  Our teachers engage students by reading aloud throughout the day.  Students also learn to transition throughout the school and encouraged to develop relationships with the staff throughout the building.

Children must be five (5) years of age on or before August 15, 2019, in order to be eligible for kindergarten.  The required documents for enrollment in kindergarten are listed below:

Birth Certificate

An official birth certificate is required in order to register for kindergarten. A mother’s copy or a hospital-created record of birth is not considered an official birth certificate. If your child was born in Tennessee, the local health department can provide an official certificate. A birth certificate can also be ordered online at the Tennessee Department of Health's website.

TN Certificate of Immunization (with Health Exam)

This form may be obtained from your doctor or the Sevier County Health Department. The physical must be given after January 1, 2019. This form must be submitted in order for your child to attend school.
If your child attended pre-kindergarten in the Sevier County School System or within the state of Tennessee, the pre-school immunization certificate and physical will be sufficient for enrolling your child in kindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year, but immunizations must be updated to the required kindergarten standards for entry.
